First time in HD, 1989's Slipstream. This film has long been overlooked, and was one of our most-wanted HD restorations. From the director of TRON, and starring Bob Peck, Mark Hamill and Bill Paxton. Now on iTunes in the UK.

"The Goodies" appeared in 13 episodes of "Engelbert (Humperdinck) With The Young Generation" in 1971-72. Some of their film sequences were from their series, some weren't. The English versions, with one or two exceptions, are long gone, but the German-dubbed versions are circulating and presumably exist in full quality at ZDF. Most (not all) of the original films for the series were compiled into the special "A Collection of Goodies."

The third episode's segment is from "Commonwealth Games", which no longer exists in color otherwise.

So is this:

Some racism warnings apply for "Commonwealth Games" and certain other episodes.

This "Gymnasium" sequence was one shot for "Engelbert with the Young Generation," and included in the Collection special.

It's also been noted that the rental VHS of "Cast a Deadly Spell" is longer than the laserdisc and streaming versions by about a minute, with a few lines being trimmed from later versions.

Meanwhile, someone had mentioned two 1960 films featuring Christopher Lee - Too Hot to Handle (with Jayne Mansfield) and The Hands of Orlac. I decided to actually look into this.

These are both unusual edge cases where two versions were released, and the one you'd probably want to see is rarer.

The Hands of Orlac was shot in French language and English language versions. The English version does circulate but is much rarer and has not been restored recently.

Too Hot to Handle mainly circulates as a black and white version which is a different edit. A color version has been released in Germany (and the color varies in quality across reels). But I also notice it's an alternate version in general, using different takes. The French VHS version is also different, with a lot more nudity. The German version is somewhere inbetween.

This will get its own thread.

Okay, here's my restoration of the "You Were Made For Me" number. Also working on the rest of the film. The AVI is my actual working file.

I thought it was an urban legend that they wouldn't allow this movie to be released in the US unless more clothes were animated, by hand, over Jayne Mansfield. That seemed unlikely given the technology at the time. Anyway it's absolutely true and the animators gave her a (much thicker) bra and a skirt with fringe which animates as she moves

Possibly the sole surviving episode of this anthology, with Jean Marsh's intro/outro.
