Explaining what the "Snyder Cut" is ...

You know how Trump is the worst possible President, so this insane fanbase grew around him because of this, who have a conspiracy theory about how he's a secret genius?

Imagine that, but for the bad Zack Snyder DC superhero movies.

Hamilton, the film. Sad how this captured the zeitgeist of the Obama era so perfectly at the time - a zeitgeist which Trump obliterated entirely. Seems like a relic now.

It's still a masterpiece, and bits of these recordings were released at the time - I collected them, and was desperate to see the whole thing in this sort of filmic quality. I'm still excited.

It follows a pretty standard structure, where Hamilton starts as an idealistic youth whose major character flaws don't destroy him until Act Two.

Watching Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, as filmed in 2016 with the iconic original cast. The cast album still sounds better in places but the play is so visual that it's great to see it like this.

Using a modern, diverse cast to play the founding fathers and try to show what's actually great about America (while giving great, complex parts to diverse actors) was Obama-era propaganda and maybe that's exactly what we still need right now.

It's not exactly a secret that the play was about the present as much as it is about the past. The problematic nature of the history it's depicting does make its politics muddled, seeming to want to ignore the inherent contradictions and appeal to everyone, but the play often depicts that complexity, and it starts a conversation about what exactly the United States of America is, or can be.

The play is not about worshipping Hamilton, it's based on the historically-significant writing he left behind (and loosely at that, obviously). It feels almost quaint in the time of Trump because it's everything he doesn't stand for - and that's a good thing. It helps that the play is a masterpiece.

It takes a lot of liberties with history to structure its story (though there's a staggering amount of real historical fact in it).

It fit in very well with the Obama era, with a subtext about how immigrants of any race should be able to make it in America, and about revolution for creating a better world, but also about how politicians sell out, and how men's flaws demolish them, and how these compromises are the original sin of our country.

The original cast are iconic, and I wouldn't have accepted recasting for a film.

To an extent this always seemed to be American propaganda created with the full blessing of the Obama administration, something which seems alarmingly quaint now with all we've lost under Trump.

With that said, it's still an extremely complex and nuanced piece of work that would be the highlight of any writer or performer's career, and certainly the defining musical of its time.

It also feels like a moment which came and went, and I've never been interested in the different casts and the supplementary material that followed. I'm glad that they filmed that moment when it was happening.

Nearly all of the parodies and hot takes about Hamilton that I see on Twitter are clearly from people who have only listened to one song (something like "My Shot") and maybe skimmed a couple others.

Folks, this show utilizes a bunch of different musical styles, and we can tell when you don't know that.

We can tell when you haven't heard "Wait For It," "Satisfied," "Dear Theodosia," "History Has Its Eyes On You," "It's Quiet Uptown," etc.

John Boyega says he has no interest in returning to Star Wars. Says he's "moved on."

There needs to be a word for this, where they hire people of color and women for these normally white male-dominated roles, and then the white male directors do absolutely fuck nothing with them. Chris Chibnalling?

Each film sets Finn up with a love interest and possible force powers and as the leader of a possible Stormtrooper rebellion, and then doesn't do anything with it and resets everything for the next film.

The Last Jedi is the only good one, but the film that followed ignores and attacks everything it was trying to do, making both films pointless ....

Onscreen text in the first and last scenes of the Matrix. It starts with the word "trans" (for transmission) and ends by zooming inbetween the M and F (male and female) in "System Failure." In The Matrix: Path of Neo video game the Wachowskis appear as both pink and blue (gender)

Providing some visual proof of the Matrix as a trans allegory that these alt-right chuds are demanding but don't actually want to listen to. Doubt there will be a reply.

Geez, all these pink hair Tumblr SJWs, correctly reading the nuance and subtext of a film exactly as the writer/directors intended.
