Eh, some of the storyboard pages were missing, had to pad it out somehow.

Interesting that some of the pages are missing. Bit of a shame really. Wonder where they went... Repurposed for Mean Green Mother, perhaps?

Funny thing is, I found this on the old Propstore site (archived).

ashmanfanboy wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2023 11:36 am No nothing special like that. The ebay seller explained that studios send out film scripts to other companies looking for potential product placement deals. I like to imagine that my copy was sent to Maxwell House. ;-)

Haven't read it in several years, but as I said earlier it's pretty much just what we eventually got on film. The unique stuff in the first draft like the drive-in scene has already been excised. There might be an explanation of "SHOT MISSING" from Some Fun Now wherein the camera follows a blood droplet but I could be thinking of the first draft here (though I think that version had Seymour doing a Forest Gump tour through 60s pop culture).

Is there any possibility that you could share it with us?

The Little Shop Archive is at it again! :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmeQZGUR7qA - Howard Ashman demo of Mean Green Mother

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18RsMuZKI00 - Howard Ashman demo of Crystal, Ronette, And Chiffon

Both demos are fully-produced and sound amazing. Hope there's more on the way. I'd give my left foot to hear a more complete version of All Gone / Plants from Beyond the Cosmos.

I'd love to have a chat with the proprieter of this channel; they post some amazing stuff. Would be fun to collaborate on some stuff sometime.

(Regarding my edit: I haven't really done much recently, had a lot of other things demanding my attention, but I'll be working on it again at some point soon. Tons of little adjustments are needed.)

Will do once I get a chance to get it out of storage.

I got the pod, got the roots
Got the branches so don't get cute!

Cool to finally hear this. I've always thought of it as Ashman and Menken's first "Disney" era showstopper.

Howard's Twoey dropping the clown act when he delivers that final "I am bad." is chilling.

Beautiful song. Gotta think it would have soothed some hard feelings with the test audiences had it made it. The 60s were still a fresh memory in 1986 and the titular and thematic homages to "Abraham, Martin, and John" wouldn't have been lost.

Godspeed. Thanks for putting them up.

Also, thanks to whichever one of you guys "archived" the other 86 workprint (VHS).

Hey guys, someone uploaded the first and final drafts of the film to the archive. Also, John Smith finally did it.

Interesting to see the scripts! Thanks for sharing. The final script also contains the plans for the reshoots, which are very interesting to read.

The workprint there is not the John Smith one, it's the same damaged "Early August '86" tape I've referred to previously. It's the same cut as the John Smith print, probably the same telecine, but it's a different tape (or just a different, very poor, transfer of the same tape, I suppose). It was put up on MySpleen a little while back, and I guess someone's finally made it public. Wasn't me who did it, but honestly I am glad it's out there for anyone to find and see.

Now if only the John Smith workprint itself would leak out too... (Or just a better transfer of that August '86 tape)
Still, if this is all we've got, I'm pretty chuffed with it. Particularly with the other two workprints from just before and just after the reshoots.

That first draft is WILD, in case no one has read it yet. Lots of callbacks to the original 1960 film and it differs significantly from the February '85 draft that was floating around.

One cool tidbit we can gleam from it: finally canonically nailing down LSoH's year to 1963.

First let me say that the Unpredicted
Eclipse Commission has conducted an
exhaustive investigation. And it is with
great...er...relief...that I report their
findings to you now. Gentlemen, the total
eclipse which occurred on Friday,
September 13th
did not, in fact, occur at
all.
