[arthur] [ The Holy Grail ]

[ About the Film ]

[pic]
Monty Python and the Holy Grail tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, with a unique and very funny twist. King Arthur (Graham Chapman) is the straight character, around whom all sorts of strange and unreal events unfold. Arthurian history will never be quite the same again!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
is also the Pythons' first shot at a proper narrative film. After having difficulty with control with And Now For Something Completely Different the Pythons wanted to do the directing themselves and find private funding, which came mainly through contacts in the rock-band industry.

"Arthurian history will never be quite the same again"
For the Pythons, working with two directors: Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam, was hard. One of the two directors would set things up, then the other would come and change it again. That's one of the reasons why Terry Jones would later directed Life of Brian alone.

Although the film had one of the lowest budgets of the Python films ($US 25 000), it is one of the most successful financially and is the favourite movie of many fans. It currently (Jan 2000) ranks as #067 on the Internet Movie Database Top 250 Films with an average rating of 8.1/10.
