Greg writes: Music has been a part of Greg Nicolett's life since he picked up a trombone in fifth grade. In highschool Greg added a second instrument- voice - to his repetoire, and finally piano. As a composer at the University of Illinois, Greg studied under Zack Browning and Eric Lund. By his sophomore year he had transfered to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor as a Music Composition/Music Technology major. Greg's work has been performed by the University of Illinois New Music Ensemble. Currently, Greg is collaborating with filmmaker Garrett Gilchrist on a number of projects, most notably Greg's first all out musical, "Musical of the Living Dead." Most recently, Greg completed the mixing of eight minutes of original music for a contemporary restaging of Bernstein's West Side Story.

Garrett writes: "I remember when we were just starting out shooting The Phantom Movie, I was playing Jar Jar and he was playing the 50s Sitcom Dad. Greg started to go off-script and just come up with these weird little lines and reactions on every take that changed the whole dynamic of the thing. It was a really simple part, and he elevated it to something much more amusing, and much harder to play against because he'd keep tripping me up, the son of a bitch! Really, in the most minor roles Greg can steal a scene from a cast of, essentially, scene stealers. He's stolen so many scenes he should be arrested. On the first day's shoot for Excaliburger he was playing the Lord of Mirrors, and Greg was playing it in his normal low voice. Every take I kept telling him to go higher, make the voice higher. He was killing his throat by the end of it but just found this character that I think is probably the best scene in the film. But more recently, and first and foremost, he considers himself a composer, and he's just brilliant at that, he can come up with music that will haunt you. He's also more career-driven than I am. I hope to keep working with Greg, because the stuff he does especially musically just sort of elevates the stupid movies I make to something higher. He's a rare talent."
Did you know? Greg was considered for the part of a fisherman in "The Animal Game" (1999). The part was instead played, accidentally and unknowingly, by some random fishing people we came across while shooting. Greg was supposed to play Zach in its sequel, "The Animal Effect" (2000), but that didn't happen either. Actually, in the final cut of "Animal Effect" you'll spot Greg VERY briefly in "flashback" scenes which are actually deleted footage from "Dr. Fred Strikes Back" (1999).
