Marina's first music video? Probably. For "Seventeen." 2007 maybe. The higher quality copy seems to be interlaced home video, and there used to be a download which is now inactive. That's a shame, since interlaced video requires a high quality download to be acceptable. Has anyone still got it?

As far as I know, the Family Jewels era videos for Obsessions, Oh No!, Hollywood, Shampain, and Mowgli's Road have never been released in high quality either, since Youtube defaulted to 360p then. "I Am Not a Robot" was uploaded by someone to Vimeo, though (in HQ 480p).

UPDATE: "Hollywood" and "Shampain" have been reuploaded to Youtube in HD. "Oh No!" is still 360p, as are some of the others. "Mowgli's Road" and "Obsessions" are low quality 480p uploads.

Marina seems to be promoting the "Fear" half of her album now, meaning we're likely to get music videos for "Fear."

I don't like the (very different) demo of Marina's "You" as much as the final, but it's interesting. I don't think it's as cohesive. It's all over the place, it never really seems to get started, and elements that are a big deal in the final are barely present here, and vice versa.

(A lot of fans are preferring it, because they expected this version from an early brief leak, but nah.)

Marina Diamandis has released a 5-song acoustic EP featuring alternate versions of songs from her Love + Fear album.

https://twitter.com/MATDArgentina/statu ... 8062517249

Marina "Superstar" (Acoustic version) video.

Simple video which is hurt a bit by the pathetically low bitrate Youtube is giving HD videos now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn4rDqnPf0Y

If you're looking for a really different sound, this acoustic EP isn't like the very simple live performances from Electra Heart and Froot, which were haunting and quite different to the album. Only "No More Suckers" actually reinvents the material, although the production on "Karma" is interesting and makes you wonder why they didn't do this on the real thing. "Orange Trees" is pointless, "True" is pleasant enough and "Superstar" sounds like its album counterpart.

Bonus: Cruel Rule (Love + Fear era, unused track)
https://soundcloud.com/wndrstrk/cruel

https://www.billboard.com/amp/articles/ ... ic-ep-tour

Marina confirms that "Superstar," "True" and "Karma" will get videos from the Acoustic EP.

No sign of any videos supporting the "Fear" album.

This means that the "Love" album will get at least 5 music videos (out of 8 tracks), and the "Fear" album will get one (so far).

"You" and "No More Suckers" would be good choices if she ever does.

Marina Superstar music video synced to the album version rather than the Acoustic EP. Not her best, but I'm glad someone did it.

"True" Acoustic video
http://youtu.be/_Cy0E_9yZUI

Another very simple video from Marina. But it's fine. For an era that has been okay and fine.

I have noticed that the acoustic (or stripped down) versions of these tracks are showing off Marina's vocals more than the album versions. Something about the mixing and production.

Like my recent She-Hulk remasters, the low bit rate Youtube has these days is RUINING these visually.

She's hiding behind fabric and veils, or a dark and murky "underwater" look, and Youtube is shrinking this all down to about 150 MB and it's a blurry, blocky mess.

Good to know it's not just my videos, I guess.

Also here's the "True" album version.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRTxdjR ... e=youtu.be

I keep thinking this one actually needed MORE production, not less. The melody of the chorus here is the interesting part, and it would be nice to start with a stripped down production and gradually ramp up to something really heavy and complex. Although clearly she thinks of it as a very ethereal track, like the fabric veils in the video.

These are 4x3 videos. Marina did two videos for Orange Trees and Handmade Heaven - the familiar one and a "vertical video" where it's just her against a backdrop. I think she's realized that social media is favoring sort of square 3x4 or 4x4 videos these days. So 4x3 was the choice for the acoustic album somehow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohtaZBlS0bE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7C9Pmm_DeU

UPDATE:
They've reuploaded the "True" video complaining about "technical issues last week" and it looks a lot better at first glance.

The reupload has massively higher contrast, which means it would compress better even without a higher bitrate, but I expect its bitrate is a lot higher now anyway. The "Karma" video was a lot higher contrast to begin with, so maybe they'd learned their lesson from that.

Looking at the official upload vs the album synced fan upload, they're both VERY low bitrate for 2019, but the official (at 1080p) is 53 MB vs 20 MB for the fan upload.

I wonder if Marina even heard my (or other) complaints about Youtube's low bit rate and complained to Youtube.

Perhaps they noticed the low bit rate themselves.

Youtube can fuck over creators but not Big Creators. They may have said, hey, this is a major pop artist and you're making the video look terrible.

That's still a suspiciously low bit rate, but one that really favors the official version.

Vimeo doesn't pull this crap, but it also really limits what you can upload without paying lots of cash. And Youtube is currently the only video site which really makes money or gets views.

"Karma" (Acoustic) video (Marina - Love + Fear album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJZlttoyItM

Or, "Birds of Prey" (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Electra Heart)
Or, But Doctor, I Am Marina and the Diamonds

The best Love + Fear track to actually get a music video so far, although Orange Trees and To Be Human are more memorable as videos. (Videos for No More Suckers, You and End of the Earth would be appreciated.)

Album version sync, though not synced terrifically well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEJ3-fs6XtU

The acoustic videos have been really simple affairs, just Marina against a backdrop in 4x3 aspect ratio. This one is honestly perfect for what it is, but conceptually it suffers compared to her similar performance on Jimmy Kimmel, which involved other dancers and a projection of video static. Imagine this video with two other dancers in some shots.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAYQ9qu ... e=youtu.be

Given that performance, and the live performances she does with other dancers, it feels like something is missing from the actual video. But it's otherwise good, and really captures a lot of emotional performance from Marina. (It also compresses well due to the high contrast.) Marina has two looks in this one - which you might call a harlequin and a gangster.

The Love + Fear album trailer remains a curious artifact. It's a very pretty shoot of Marina in some forests, reciting lyrics from the entire album as poetry - including Life Is Strange, Emotional Machine and To Be Human. They could have shot an actual video in these locations, and indeed it looks like half of the To Be Human video was shot in the same bamboo forest. The "To Be Human" video is heavy with stock footage but that does clarify a lot of the lyrics, such as "there were riots in America."

Pleasantly surprised that Hollywood and Shampain got reuploaded to Youtube in HD at some point. Oh No! is still 360p, and the others are still low quality. There's a high quality "I Am Not a Robot" on Vimeo and I'd like to track down the original upload of "Seventeen" somehow.

(The HD versions are still low bitrate with obvious compression, but definitely an improvement. 720 Hollywood is about 26 MB, 1080 Shampain is about 40 MB.)

There's an alternate edit of Marina's Oh No!

Looks like a first edit without the comic book effects, and with a little more early-Marina awkwardness. Not in good quality, mind.

It's the same shoot, but it starts with her waking up groggily on the couch and looking like more of a mess. We see more of her in yellow throwing money, a gag where she's stuck in red bubblewrap, and two shots where her skirt is too short, exposing her undies.

The two edits are pretty much entirely different throughout, rarely showing the same shot at the same moment (though sometimes at other moments). The standard edit has a faster pace.

Or on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KsdpdY5n4I

I've also noticed this Vimeo upload of the standard version is better than Youtube's quality.

Oh No! Marina and the Diamonds
https://vimeo.com/259435424
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr-SqRWImmI

Her first few videos were done when she was under contract to Neon Gold Records.

Here are the Neon Gold Records uploads of:

I Am Not a Robot
https://vimeo.com/5310254

“Hollywood” (Chilly Gonzales / Estonian POP! Version)
https://vimeo.com/9003107
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP6JdJddn08

Marina's "Hollywood" was a glitzy track produced by Biff Stannard of The Spice Girls. But then there's this version, produced by Chilly Gonzales and intended to seem a bit out of date and uncool - the flip side to the single.

It was clearly shot as interlaced PAL video at 50i / 720x576. It has never been released in that quality though. The Vimeo upload is shrunk slightly to 640, enough to break the interlacing.

The Chilly Gonzales version of Hollywood also has the "Air hostess" verse which is skipped in the single, video and acoustic video.

"Air hostess is doing gossip magazines, crosswords on a flight to JFK. 39 years old with a mile-high sheen, trying to stimulate a mind that is slowly starting to decay. I itch my skin and jump up and say, "Lady, I know why your thoughts turned grey"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toHFk-AeBVQ

The Youtube versions of Mowgli's Road and Obsessions are better than Neon Gold Records' uploads.

The verses sound gorgeous in this. Shampain is such a produced pop song that performing it acoustic is a very different experience, bordering on self-parody.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB7nK4C ... n&index=73

While I'm at it, the demos for "Girls" are arguably better than the album track, at least in places. She may have gotten cold feet about some of these lyrics, which make fun of women's magazines, beauty culture, and female bullying. I doubt she'd do a song like this now, blaming women for larger problems in our culture, but the bluntness of it hits hard. There's a youthful tryhard edginess to it, but it's also a precursor to her examining what sort of woman and performer she didn't want to be in "Electra Heart."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwdxi1B ... n&index=29

A homemade demo exists of Are You Satisfied? It sounds like it's from the Myspace / Mermaid & Sailor era, since she's popping her P sounds. It's heavily autotuned, and the lyrics are darker than the final version, as she feels she'll never be satisfied. The "Are you satisfied with an average life?" sections are not present here, nor is "if I have no friends and feel I want to die." The final version is more fleshed out and contrasts her ambition to be successful with her depression, and also invites the listener to share in those ambitions. The original is just the depression --!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4F2jAMb7XA

It does show how great the production is in the final version, which is a little lacking in this live version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3QqWku33tQ

Full concert BTW:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an3o7mrplYg

Or another:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCWL2U_i8EE

Sometimes a live performance suggests a minor song had more potential. Here's Guilty, from her KCRW radio set, which is the lowlight of the album but the highlight of this session. The other full concert linked above also has a good version of Guilty. How she sings "Guilty on the run" is impressive live, and she also starts the song out very simply then lets a drum beat drop, which gets a good reaction live, when it's just another track on the album.
