Generally speaking, the pencil tests in the Recobbled Cut aren't clear enough to do much with. You would have to be a world-class animator who is only using that material as a very, very rough guide and starting again from scratch, throwing out what's actually there, which only works for scenes which are in a rough state at this point.

The storyboards are clear enough though, so maybe there's that. But again you'd have to be quite an artist.

I normally discourage this sort of thing, but this shot is such a mess of unfinished and unavailable material (unshot bits of it got sold on Ebay!) that, sure, why not.

At one point I wanted to colorize the (not animated) scenes of YumYum and Nanny "Try the prison." "Oh no!"

It looks like your aspect ratio is too wide though, as this was originally a 4x3 pencil test from somewhere.

I've previously tried tracing one frame out of the pencil tests myself (I forget exactly why) and even then I thought it wouldn't be up to par, it might be a fun experiment but from VHS sources? I would at least wait for a HD transfer.

It's impossible to trace accurately without the original art, or failing that, a really good HD source.

Fred Calvert's team was tracing the original art and their work still looked like crap!

Scenes that are VERY unfinished in the rough cut would be another matter, if a professional animator wanted to animate them based on a few keyframes, but that's not happening either.

Yeah the pencil test required a lot of work, and I do not think that this was the final test, as it does not match the finished flowers perfectly. So I’ve started by matching the linetest to the flowers in After Effects as best I could, frame by frame. Then I animated over the positioned linetest, as this gave me a clearer view of what the movements where and to study what was already there. But like you said, almost every shot required tweaks, and off course adding the missing bracelets and nails.

When I had this middle part roughly down I started animating the beginning end ending of the shots. Currently I am almost done with animating everything in 2’s, only needing too add the leaves to the left part and the bracelet, nails and leaves to the right part. But it is still a lot of work left to get everything in 1's, let alone cleaning it and colouring. I do not yet want to think about that!

Just the one shot yet, but currently doing the last tweaks on the animation of the left side in 2's, planning to post something this weekend. Those leaves on the stems are a handfull to animate.
