Spike Lee accepted $200k from the NYPD. His film BlackkKlansman is suspiciously pro-police in a way that doesn't tally with reality. Boots Riley takes him down.

Reminder that Phase IV is still not on video (Blu Ray) with its original ending intact. This is a film by Saul Bass, a sort of cheaper, earthbound riff on Kubrick's 2001 involving ants. The great psychedelic ending was cut, but was found and screened recently. This was an early MST3K film as well!

All three of the Marvel Studios films (to date) which star Spider-Man also feature returning actors from The Incredible Hulk (2008), a film which is often forgotten about otherwise in MCU canon. They are the only MCU films to do this. (William Hurt and Martin Starr return.)

2d animation exaggerating aspects of the xerox era. Dick Van Dyke, dancing. Eglantine Price. I'm into it.

It's still impossible to tell if this will actually work from a trailer, but it LOOKS just like it should.

The attempts to make things retro extend to the poster as well. Not sure I'd call it authentically 1966 but it's in that ballpark.

This is conceptually similar to Christopher Robin, in that it's a period piece set in early 20th century England where depressed adults just need some of That On-Brand Disney Magic from 60s legacy characters, which is by nature disrespectful to the real-life families involved. Except I actually want to see this.

And a remake of Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Can't say I'm overly enthusiastic about this new movie, but that poster is a nice throwback to the ones Bob Peak created for 60's musicals (chiefly My Fair Lady and Camelot).

More Marvel one-shots and miniseries? Rumor has it, Marvel plans to bring Loki and the Scarlet Witch to TV, as they did with Peggy Carter. If Tom HIddleston's Loki really is dead (or Scarlet Witch for that matter) this will be a way to do more with the popular character. I hope they pull this off!

Three big superhero films are coming out around the same time: DC/WB's Shazam (originally Captain Marvel), FOX/Marvel's Dark Phoenix (originally Marvel Girl), and Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel (originally Ms. Marvel), which may also feature Jude Law as Mar-vell aka Captain Marvel. Sensing a pattern here.

As if a switch had been turned, as if an eye had been blinked, as if some phantom force in the universe had made a move eons beyond our comprehension, suddenly, there was no trail! There was no giant, no monster, no thing called ‘Douglas’ to be followed. There was nothing in the tunnel but the puzzled men of courage, who suddenly found themselves alone with shadows and darkness! With the telegram, one cloud lifts, and another descends. Astronaut Frank Douglas, rescued, alive, well, and of normal size, some 8,000 miles away in a lifeboat, with no memory of where he has been, or how he was separated from his capsule! Then who, or what, has landed here? Is it here yet? Or has the cosmic switch been pulled? Case in point: The line between science fiction and science fact is microscopically thin! You have witnessed the line being shaved even thinner! But is the menace with us? Or is the monster gone?

(Monster A-Go-Go, 1965)
