Sadly not available on DVD or Blu-Ray. 1965 film "Pop Gear" (US title Go Go Mania). Essentially a film of British music series Top of the Pops, featuring its infamous sexual predator host Jimmy Saville. But more happily featuring various British Invasion bands, and 1963 Pathe newsreel footage of The Beatles at top and tail. You may have seen clips from this film on Youtube (and elsewhere) presented as music videos. Bands include the Animals, Herman's Hermits, the Nashville Teens, Peter and Gordon, Matt Monro, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, the Honeycombs, the Rockin' Berries, and the Spencer Davis Group.

Nirvana fans will recognize the song at the 50 minute mark. Curiously followed by the William Tell Overture.

Awhile back someone posted an HD transfer of a film copy of Steve Barron's classic music video for "Take On Me" by a-ha, in a slightly different theatrical edit.

Now the official Youtube post of that video has been updated with an HD version of the 35mm film edit of the video. I wonder what resolution they actually transferred it at. A lot of times these are just SD upscales, but it does look good.

This post used to be of the SD video edit of the song, and much lower quality. There are obvious differences in the first four shots introducing the band members, which use 80s video effects in the SD edit. It's minor but the 35mm theatrical edit is more "filmic," especially in this form, and has vastly different color grading.

I’m hoping at some point we’ll get a digital release of the Thriller IMAX remaster too

There are a lot of music videos which I'm hoping go back to the original film in HD/4K soon.

The recent Spice Girls reuploads were just upscales unfortunately. Spice Up Your Life and Headlines are (still) a smeary mess.

Cathy Dennis was a UK pop star in the early 90s before achieving more success writing huge hit songs for others, like Kylie Minogue and Katy Perry. She wrote the theme to Pop Idol. Here she is with "Toxic," a hit for Britney Spears.

RIP Adam Schlesinger. Genius songwriter for Fountains of Wayne, That Thing You Do, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and so much more.

Rachel Bloom's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was consistently the lowest-rated show on network TV. It had multiple musical numbers per episode, and it regularly spat out masterpieces. A lot of that was Adam Schlesinger, who was brilliant enough to make it look easy.

A truly great TV series, which had a romantic-comedy vibe but with an edge to it. The lead character Rebecca Bunch is somewhere inbetween a quirky, fun, relatable alterego for the show's creator, and a dangerous, toxic stalker with serious underlying issues.

They embrace the flawed, complicated nature of the character throughout, treating her as a complex human being rather than just a series of quirks. Gradually over four seasons she deals with her mental health and how she's hurt people, and gets better. This makes the show a little less funny, but gives it an arc so that it ends at just about the right time.

Adam and the team could hit just the right tone for a song very quickly. I didn't know that the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 4 "Meet Rebecca" theme was literally a parody of (part of) the advertising campaign for season 1.

A lot of them were parodies so they were always dealing with different styles of music.

Adam Schlesinger also produced the Monkees' comeback album "Good Times."
