This Christmas, spare a thought for the less fortunate among us. Those who don't have a family to go back to. Those without a penny in their pocket. No decorations in the house. No Christmas tree. No food in the cupboard. No presents to give or receive. A week away from being unable to pay rent.

Wait, this is me. I wanted to talk about the less fortunate but that's literally me right now. Dammit. Okay, I'll start again.

Look, Christmas isn't going to be perfect. It can be very stressful dealing with family and the attempts at celebration. And it's stressful not having that either. You may have in your head the vision of a perfect Christmas you had as a kid that isn't coming this year.

It doesn't matter. This is a time to set aside your worries, if only for a little while, and ...

... no, I can't do that. Can't stop worrying. I don't know.

Okay, this is a time to take stock of how far you've come this year. As hard as it may have been, you've come a lot farther than you think you have. Accomplished more. Your work has not been for nothing.

Okay, that works.

Now is a time to let the people you love know that you love them.

I am thankful for all of you. Thankful for everyone who pulled me halfway out of the dark.

This Christmas, don't stress out. Christmas will always be tinged with a longing for something we can't quite reach. That's what makes it a time of hope and peace. We imagine a better future. Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow.

Merry Christmas, everyone. With love.
