Muppets fans - Take a shot for every time that some website writes about Kermit's current girlfriend Denise, and uses a photo of Spamela Hamderson with a wig from the pilot instead.

(Admittedly, the rebuilt Denise is much less Muppety-looking.)

Beauty tips from Miss Piggy (and hopefully the new series will do her some justice) --

"Start out perfect and don't change a thing. Accentuate your best features by pointing to them. Conceal your flaws by sucker punching anyone who has the audacity to mention them in the face."

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.”

“Beauty is all about loving who you are. And if you have problems with that, may I suggest that you try loving who I am?”

The Muppets episode 2:

Present in BG: Beautiful Day Monster, Beauregard, Crazy Harry, Angel Marie. Uncle Deadly, Newsman, Sweetums and Lips have speaking roles. Dr. Reza Aslan plugging "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth [2013]" on Up Late With Miss Piggy ... a funny cameo by Lawrence Fishburne. The human cast seem more cartoony than the Muppets.

So far the writers have forgotten that Miss Piggy has positive qualities, though. Never seen a more negative portrayal of the pig.

Julie Andrews is 80 today. In the 70s she did a few TV specials featuring The Muppets, three of which I restored for the Henson Rarities channel. Two additional specials were left untouched here due to questions of copyright. [Julie On Sesame Street, The Julie Andrews Hour]

"One Step Into Spring," which almost got a DVD release a few years back, is a decent example of my restoration process, since most of the special is from a German PAL source which was missing several segments. These were inserted from a much lower-quality VHS source. The change in quality is both seamless and obvious.

I want a prequel that answers the question: "If Statler and Waldorf hate The Muppets so much, why do they show up every night?"

In their first appearance we see their boring home life, falling asleep in chairs at home watching TV. This gets them out of the house and they clearly enjoy heckling the proceedings.

They also seem to be former song and dance men -- more than once they wear costumes like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins and sing old music hall songs, vaudeville style. So they're drawn to the theater for their own reasons, and if they were younger would be performing onstage more.

Quite simply, The Muppet Show - and Fozzie Bear's comedy in particular - is something they love to hate. It brings them joy.
