The Young Ones was a BBC sitcom which ran for twelve episodes in 1982 and 1984. Starring Adrian Edmondson, Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer, Christopher Ryan, and Alexei Sayle, the series brought a certain punk, alternative comedy aesthetic to mainstream British television. Cartoonish and surreal, the series was a big hit, and Rik and Ade's foul, obnoxious and violent double-act would resurface for "Filthy Rich and Catflap" and three series of "Bottom." The series was created by Rik Mayall, Lise Mayer, and Ben Elton.

The track was used in Voyage of the Rock Aliens, a very silly 1984 film directed by James Fargo and starring Pia Zadora and Craig Sheffer.

The opening animation by Rand MacIvor was obviously inspired by Terry Gilliam's work, including Gilliam's opening sequence for "The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine." Most of MacIvor's familiar animation first appeared in the 1979 spinoff "Whatever Turns You On."
