A Christmas Carol (1971):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2QuFb6f4zI

v 1.0 -

- Synced VHS Audio to the 16mm print.
- Color corrected to match the more vibrant palette of the VHS transfer.
- Denoised/cleaned the 16mm source print using Film9.

v 2.0 -

- Shot-by-shot white balance and additional color correction.
- Sailor flyover and city scenes now are corrected more closely to the VHS version to remove the extreme blue tint. This involved some footage replacement, as well as adding the VHS chroma to the 16mm transfer in some scenes.
- Fixed some frame flickering in the coal miners' scene.
- Several "rolling" frames at the beginning of shots reduced or removed.

v 2.1 -

Minor update.

- Removed hard-coded black bars from the sides of the video.
- Fixed a shot of Tiny Tim which was overly red.
- Minor color adjustments during the introduction of The Ghost of Christmas Future.
- Adjusted the colors of the city return flyover and window view slightly to better match the surrounding footage.

Greetings, and many thanks for making Recobbled.

While I enjoyed it, OCD me flinched at some encode/release issues :
  • Audio is uncompressed !
  • Would it make sense to add partial dubs from arabian night audio ?
  • Hard-coded black bars.
  • Video compression could be more efficient.
  • No subs. I saw fr and en around, I bet fans made more.
  • No chapters.
I might try and make a re-encode/mux myself, but is there a master to compress the video from ?

What?

>> Audio is uncompressed !

I guess.

>> Would it make sense to add partial dubs from arabian night audio ?

No.

>> Hard-coded black bars.

It's a 16x9 image which is standard.

>> Video compression could be more efficient.

I guess.

>> No subs. I saw fr and en around, I bet fans made more.

There are partial Spanish subs and I know I have English ones. This wasn't as common in 2013 and I did not do it myself.

>> No chapters.

Okay.

>> I might try and make a re-encode/mux myself, but is there a master to compress the video from ?

No.

There's a new website that uses machine learning to colorize old black and white photos - works pretty darn well

https://deepai.org/machine-learning-model/colorizer

I tried it out with some photos of Dick:

If you follow my other work in other threads, there is a better model of Jason Antic's DeOldify now which I have been using as a first draft for doing some extremely high quality video colorizations.

You can try it yourself here:
