There's a rule in screenwriting that everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story. You would never write a villain with no redeeming qualities, where everything they say and do is bigoted, vile, dangerous and disgusting. Yet I have known, in real life, so many people like that.

If Ed Gein or Ted Bundy were around today, they'd be posting on Twitter about killing people and eating/wearing their flesh, and women would screenshot the Tweets asking "Why are men like this? 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂"

(Without exaggerating -- I just saw a screenshot of a Tweet by a man who has dedicated his entire online life to promoting the idea that rape is good. The woman's caption was "Why are men like this?")

(I mean you could call the cops instead, if this were a fantasy world where cops are good)

(This is me screenshotting all cops and asking, why are men like this)

When you realize that Hunter S. Thompson and Bob Rafelson and Johnny Depp's superpowers were mainly just white-guy privilege, and that if you met them, their bullshit would be Jared Leto levels of exhausting

Gilliam too maybe (Hamster Factor suggested that clearly even back in the day)

Not to deny their talent, but "tromping around in a cowboy hat starting fights and making everyone miserable, but they still call you a genius" is exhausting once you stop taking the "genius" part as read.

Elon Musk got away with it until his Twitter posts proved him a dumbass.

Watching this behavior in your teenage years:

Wow, what geniuses. They really show society for the hollow bullshit it is

Watching this behavior as an adult:

Wait, this is childish. I can't even imagine anyone getting away with pulling this shit who isn't a white guy born before 1960. Any minority would be shot for it, and anyone born after 1975 wouldn't have a career after five minutes of it.

The Left: We must solve the problems of climate change, healthcare and income inequality before it's too late for us, our planet and our children. We can't do this in a system which values profit over people.

The Right: The ghosts of minorities want to steal your penis. Give all your money to our racism wall and buy hats and brain pills.

(Summary of right-wing Twitter today: "Remember, eating only raw beef gives you parasites, which are good and prevent against vaccination. Vegetables are all man-made, and soy turns you into a woman who likes Star Wars, which is bad. A theoretical Snyder cut of Justice League is the only good movie ever made. Have you read Jordan Peterson?")

RUFFALO: I put a bullet in my head and the other guy spit it out.

NORTON: I did that. You ARE the other guy

(Captain America returning the Soul Stone)

"So they recast you, huh?"

"Yes."

"Did they actually get Natalie Portman back or is that old footage?"

"Just give me the stone."

"Who was the teenager at the funeral?"

"It's the kid from Iron Man 3."

"See, for a second I thought they'd brought back the wrong Quicksilver."

Your #StarWars name is your First Name plus "Jar," your Middle Name plus "Jar," your Last Name plus "Binks," minus your First, Last and Middle names.

Concept: An album where famous artists cover songs which were style parodies of their work.

The B-52s do "Samurai Pizza Cats," Bob Dylan does "Stuck In the Middle With You," Paul McCartney does "Another Day (The Rutles)" and "Love Take Me Down (To The Streets)," Devo does "Dare To Be Stupid," Pat Benatar does "Heart Attack Love," Elton John does "Godfrey Daniel," The Spice Girls do "Friendtopia," Carly Rae Jepsen does "Oh My God I Think I Like You," Ed Sheeran singing "Let's Have Intercourse" etc.

I was remastering some old 2007 miniDV footage from She Hulk and it was no longer playing correctly, glitching out on every frame. I got one capture of the footage without any major glitching, but accidentally destroyed the file during the inverse telecine process (which failed due to some skipped frames at the very start of the tape), and every playback after that was glitched.

My old 2007 miniDV camera ($5000ish) had finally given out and stopped recording or playing back correctly without glitching. (I was still using it for audio this year, and had to rerecord my interview with AniMat because of this.)

I painstakingly repaired the glitched footage frame by frame over the course of a few hours, using an old version of the footage I had, which had been converted from miniDV to JPEG and the green background keyed out to flat green, but which was visually still intact enough to patch the constant glitches if I could spot them visually. this was just in case I never got a good capture of the tape again.

(The goal was then to noise reduce this version of the footage for the remaster, and vastly improve the keying mattes.)

I bought a "new" deck for $18, then batteries for the same price or so. Yesterday I played back the same tape and it glitches out constantly on that deck too, which is horrifying. So I guess that tape is now permanently damaged by my old deck? Well, at least I was able to repair the parts of the footage that I need.

This was to remaster She-Hulk's first few sections of the Weathermaster scene, which is the most famous scene from Shamelessly She Hulk and got millions of views on Youtube (albeit with no revenue for me, since it has copyrighted music on it and so on).

I was posting some remastered She Hulk scenes. Unfortunately Youtube has demonetized my channel as of June 20th, for no reason. After a month I was able to click a button to appeal and wait another month, but I can't actually talk to them about it, and they are likely to just uphold their original decision. They have already pocketed all the revenue from about a million views (probably $1000 or so).

It may not be a coincidence that my Youtube channel had never made that kind of money until a couple weeks before they demonetized it. I'd gone from nothing every month to about $200 recently. Putting more work into the channel, it became more popular, but Youtube immediately flagged it for destruction when that occurred. I was very close to having Youtube be an actual job for me by next year, but that may never happen at all now.

I believe what happened here is, they're under a lot of pressure because of how alt-r_ght and Neo N_zi voices are amplified and promoted on Youtube, and have resulted in radicalizing young right wingers into N_zism. So they want to seem like they're actually doing something about this, without actually doing anything about the popular alt-r_ght bigots on their platform. So they go after small creators for nonsensical reasons instead. This happened on Tumblr when the government pressured them to remove pornography. They flagged posts by everyone, more or less at random, for about a month then stopped. Just to make it seem like they were doing something, without actually paying for actual human beings to moderate the massive amount of content on their platform.

As for the glitching DV tapes:

I think I have the unreleased footage from Shamelessly She-Hulk all captured for editing, if I ever have time, but I'm not sure. There was over 55 hours of footage and I wouldn't be sure something is missing until I've tried to edit it. It's worrying that scenes become unplayable over time. Makes me worry about the older analog footage from my high school and college movies, which I will probably never remaster or release anywhere, but I want to be sure they still exist in some format somewhere. Earlier this year, I actually remastered the VHS footage of my first high school movie, into an incomplete approximation of what the movie became. I released it to almost no one because there's no one who would want to see it at this point --!

I don't currently have the means to play back 8mm, Hi8 and Digital8 footage, which I shot on from 1993ish until 2006, and a working Digital8 deck is cheap but increasingly rare. I expect I'll never have the time or need to revisit the hundreds of tapes I shot at that time but I'm hoping all those tapes in storage never become unplayable -- it's a conundrum.

(I'm also aware that the VHS stuff I remastered was played back on a bad VCR and looks worse than it was intended to - I had a much nicer SVHS VCR back in the day - but I wasn't going to spend cash on a new VCR for that difference in quality. I just wanted to make sure a digital copy existed somewhere.)

(I'm currently super busy on a large paid project anyway, so there's no time for any of this, but it weighs on my mind for the future, for late next year.)
