I wanted to say thanks for all the great restoration work that you do. I found my way to the forum sometime in the past year after initially hearing about your various Recobbled Cuts of The Thief and the Cobbler. I've since found several of your other restorations here (particularly the Muppet-related ones) and have enjoyed watching them. I noticed the recently uploaded restoration of A Muppet Family Christmas and was curious if you had any plans to upload it anywhere as a DVD the way you have with several of your other restorations? I'd love to be able to download it if that's a possibility.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Sadly my Vimeo account was just taken down, probably due to Star Wars: Deleted Magic going viral the other day.

That means that the Muppet restorations are not currently up. The Vimeo account had A Muppet Family Christmas on it as well as Secrets of the Muppets - neither of which I've released in DVD format yet.

I was planning on making Muppet Family Christmas available in DVD format for the holiday, but it would only fill up half a disc, so I was waiting for some other Muppet special to fill up the rest - something I haven't done yet. Hopefully I'll be able to get that done before Christmas -- otherwise I'll just put Family Christmas up somewhere alone.

I suppose I could do that anyway --

I'm more interested in the Nelvana short, the quality seems to be great for that one, and depending on the end results I will happily fantasize about what if the same guys doing a restoration of this would give other Nelvana stuff a shot like The Devil and Daniel Mouse and the Canadian Version of Rock & Rule, both of which had their 35mm prints lost and have an old Broadcast VHS as their main source

I believe the source in both cases was broadcast-quality tapes [3/4" perhaps] rather than VHS. Still a shame.

The Holiday Special cartoon, of course, exists in Lucasfilm's archives and has sometimes been excerpted. Probably off a broadcast tape as well.

I bring this up every year, but ...

I was glad when they restored something like the "original 1964 edit" of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1998. A lot of little cut scenes were reinstated at that point (though they rarely appear in the TV broadcasts.) "Fame and Fortune" and the ending at the Island of Misfit Toys were reshoots done the year later, on a lower budget. The 1998 edit restored "We're a Couple of Misfits" instead of "Fame and Fortune."

Rudolph fans didn't get to see this footage from 1965 to 1998:

The original ending and GE sponsor commercials, from the first year, now only exist in black and white. ... AYbMc9diSA

In the original ending of Rudolph, Santa doesn't go back to the Island of Misfit Toys, but at least they spell the cast names right.

And here's Fame and Fortune, as aired from 1965-1998.

Worth noting that "A Muppet Family Christmas" suffered some minor cuts after its first airing -- and the recut one is the version I'm showing this year (as the original has never been issued on video).

Here's the most obvious scene lost in the later edit of Muppet Family Christmas:

Also, Fozzie and Elmo decorate the tree:

And Fozzie plays with dolls while Kermit does a commercial break bumper:

The current American Muppet Family Christmas DVD is missing five songs due to music rights - it's terrible, missing nearly 10 minutes of material - and Kermit is missing from A Christmas Toy and Emmet Otter. I'm working on Christmas Toy this year. In theory, if I have time.

Sadly if you see these specials - Charlie Brown included - on network broadcast these days, quite a bit will be cut for commercials.

Or to remove commercials - Charlie Brown was originally sponsored by your local Coke bottler ...
