I can't tell you how many people have now blocked me on Facebook for saying the obvious about Joe Biden.

I'm not in a swing state (California is reliably blue) and might just sit this one out. Haven't decided yet. I hate this man, and I don't think he can win. (That may even be why they chose him.) Trump may have to be removed some other way.

In a pandemic, I might not vote. They used the fact that people were getting Covid-19 from voting to force Bernie out of the race.

If I vote, it would be against Donald Trump, but voting for Biden- another segregationist rapist with dementia who opposes universal health care and anyone under 40 generally - would be my last choice.

Existential Comics writes:

The greatest trick capitalist propaganda ever pulled was convincing people that "freedom" meant something like "being able to choose between 27 different flavors of ice cream", and not "having the material conditions of life allow for the pursuit of your own creative potential".

Arthur Chu writes:

It's not that it's impossible to keep on feeding people and keep "the economy" going while everyone is out of work

It's that they're terrified of ever admitting that it IS possible

You can tell by the frivolity of the things the angry consumers want

Was it EVER actually NECESSARY that you get someone to wait on you at a restaurant, to take your order and bring your food to you with a winning smile, instead of you picking up takeout

Of course not

Like most service industry jobs it's a bullshit job, it's makework

Nobody needs the actual work to be done in order to live, it's a job that exists because they tell you you don't deserve to live unless you make someone richer than you happy enough to tip you

The whole modern economy is constructed from bullshit jobs where the wealthy sit on their piles of money and tell you "If you make me happy enough you get rent and groceries for another month"

And they trick people into thinking this is just how "the economy" works, that it's the same division of labor that ancient tribes used to cooperate to take down wooly mammoths or whatever

It's nonsense

The fact is very little would change if you went and got your own food from the kitchen like a big boy and we just took your money and gave it to the underclass of service workers for "doing nothing"

The "value they created" for you was just you being petulant

What they're terrified of is the government realizing this is life or death and forcing the coffers of the wealthy open to keep the population alive for three months *without* doing all the bullshit jobs and people realizing "Hey, this actually does work"

"Why don't we do this all the time? Why don't we make it so everyone has a constant level of 'base pay' and tips really are just an extra reward for good service? Why don't we treat service work like what it is - doing you a *favor*, not performing your God ordained function"

They'd really rather risk death than risk that change in attitude, to them their position in society as the generous dispensers of the right to survive in return for haircuts and shoeshines and immediately refilling the bread every time is their whole identity

The ideological logic behind re-opening is simply to push responsibility for calamity onto the individual.

Oh, you went broke, lost your home? Should've went back to work, prole. This is your own fault for being afraid.

Oh wow you got sick? Should've socially distanced, obviously.

50,000 Americans are already dead and the President of the United States of America has suggested that people inject disinfectant.

Sometimes it occurs to me that the best thing to do is step back from the jokes, the futurecasting, and the political analysis and just state the thing plainly. Let it settle in for awhile.

This should be a turning point.

It should be the end of any discourse about, say, meritocracy, or democracy and the will of the populace. Or any argument that authoritarian institutions are even capable of basic, common sense measures in a crisis. All of that has been proven, in the crucible, to be insufficient.

It should certainly be the end of the President's re-election campaign, and the one-party rule of the faction of the government that put him in power. That is, if anything we've ever been told about how politics works were true, instead of the naked game of power played out we see.

There's no "government authority" after this. Anyone even suggesting so should be met with a simple lit laugh and, at best, some off-hand half-hearted remark about disinfectant.

All we're doing is bending to the raw power of the police state. It has lost its legitimacy forever.
