Boy, Reagan really was very similar to Trump.

It will never cease to amaze me that the Democratic establishment hates Bernie and the idea of real progressive change so much that they've put their full support behind someone as useless and unelectable as Joe Biden. He's a segregationist bigot who spoke at Strom Thurmond's funeral, sniffs the hair of little girls, has been credibly accused of sexual assault, and is clearly in cognitive decline, falling apart live on television and streams. He is not a leader, and has no policies worth fighting for. But he's not Bernie (and everyone else who isn't Bernie flamed out first) so they send all their money to this fifth-place contender.

I'm almost 40 and the Democratic establishment, as well as those who support them, have had all this time to show any respect for my generation or for Gen Z as people. Any respect at all. Still nothing. They don't care about us, or the future.

You could argue that Al Gore, Michael Dukakis, Jimmy Carter, Elizabeth Warren, Howard Dean and John Kerry were basically good Democratic candidates who simply ran bad campaigns (generally running to the center rather than to progressive values) and who lacked enough mainstream (centrist) media support.

Joe Biden is a bad candidate running a bad campaign.

It is staggering that any conservative (especially the NeverTrumpers) still thinks that the GOP is reining in the extremism of the other side to prevent the economy from crashing, rather than the exact opposite being true. The GOP has crashed the economy every time and then lets the centrist Dems try to fix it, while hindering them in any way they possibly can.

The Democrats have ignored the left (and the poor and those under 40) my entire lifetime, bowing to wealthy corporate interests only, but the Republicans still call them Marxists, and NeverTrumpers do a lot of serious thinking and come to the same conclusion, because they've got shit for brains.

And I get it, to a degree. The Democrats are a centrist mess of a party who offer nothing to a lot of people and aren't all that exciting. Centrist Republicans should be embracing their bullshit though, and they don't.

I can't find it now, but Kamala Harris had some sort of plan which summed up the Neoliberal way so perfectly. I think it was offering a tax credit to people who had graduated college and bought a home and had a specific income and had worked in social work for five years and so on and so on -- it had so many caveats that you got the impression it would have helped five people in the entire country (if the bill even passed, which it wouldn't, because the Republicans have blocked all legislation which would help anybody for decades). So many Dems are like that. They offer "access to healthcare" rather than healthcare, just like in theory I have "access" to being married to pop sensation Marina and the Diamonds.

While I can't find that example (or anything as bad), her comments compiled at this website are illustrative of the basic principle:
https://www.ontheissues.org/2020/Kamala ... overty.htm

Kamala's comments about federal housing programs really stand out when you take into account how impossible it is to actually get federal housing credit, or indeed any aid from the federal government whatsoever.

As someone noted about Joe Biden, he has dementia now and his brain is leaking out his ears, but he's stood in the way of progress his entire career so he can do it now just out of sheer muscle memory. Reflexively standing against health care in the middle of a pandemic. Reflexively accepting vote suppression tactics during a pandemic.

Researchers: Huh, due to systemic issues of poverty in the US, the coronavirus is disproportionately killing people of color.

White people with red MAGA hats, guns, kevlar vests, aviator shades and confederate flags: OPEN THE ECONOMY BACK UP. OPEN IT UP NOW OR ELSE

Jared Yates Sexton @JYSexton writes:

Just so we're all clear, Betsy DeVos, Trump's Secretary of Education, paid for a fake protest in Michigan just so Donald Trump could stand in front of the country and say that Americans want to reopen the economy.

These pro-coronavirus rallies are not organic protests. They're astroturfed and well funded, like the Tea Party was, and easily connectable to people from the Trump administration (like millionaire Betsy DeVos) and to white supremacist groups. They're also heavily promoted on FOX News, as the plan is to turn them INTO organic protests, but at this moment the "movement" is faked.

The groups behind these protests popped up literally overnight, with identical descriptions, and the same guy registered all of them. We're seeing the same recognizable white supremacists involved in multiple events. We're seeing identical handwriting on protest signs from different sides of the country.

The goal is to make it SEEM like there's a huge groundswell of people who LOVE THE VIRUS and want to REOPEN AMERICA NOW. In truth, this is partly the Trump administration's doing, and partly a few groups of white supremacists who realized this virus was disproportionately killing people of color (due to economic reasons), and who therefore love the virus now.
