Fascinating list of laws passed against Native people. A lesson in structural racism, from the author of classic fanfic My Immortal (oddly enough).

Trump at dinner with military commanders: “You guys know what this represents, the calm before the storm." No explanation.

Keep in mind that in his Tweets, Trump has confused and conflated North Korean leader Kim Il-Sung, Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un as one person, who he calls "Rocket Man" ... Almost certainly a decision made to avoid saying the wrong name.

Trump: "Being nice to Rocket Man hasn't worked in 25 years, why would it work now? Clinton failed, Bush failed, and Obama failed. I won't fail."

(Kim Jong-Un was 8 years old 25 years ago.)

What does "failed" mean in this context? Trump seems to be pushing us to nuclear war with this small, private nation, for no urgent reason. Is he saying that Clinton "failed" by not getting into a nuclear war with an eight year old? Did Bush and Obama "fail" by not getting into a nuclear war with a globally unimportant nation?

This is chilling.

Grain of salt here, as other posters in this damn thread are alt-righters/Neo Nazis. But anonymous poster "Harry Hollywood" on page 1 (only) names several men who abused Corey Haim/Feldman, several of which are confirmed or basically confirmed now.

Food benefits (SNAP) can only be used to buy food - and not on anything resembling a hot prepared meal (or at a restaurant, despite many restaurants advertising EBT use under a rare loophole). Generally it's stuff you have to cook yourself. It works like a debit card. For low income families, and low income people like myself, it doesn't last the entire month but it makes it possible for us to buy the real, nutritious food we want, including fresh fruits and vegetables or whatever we need.

Trump wants to replace this with a bag of processed crap, because that worked so well for Puerto Rico.

This is monstrous, and would ruin the life of any low income American for no reason at all, except to shame them for being poor. The proposed contents are the sort of stuff that's already readily available at food pantries if people wanted them, and would stop people from being able to buy the food they actually need.

Of course it includes milk and cereal, because our species didn't originally drink milk as adults and non-"white" races have a high rate of lactose intolerance - including up to 100 percent of Asians and Native Americans, 60 to 80 percent of blacks and 50 to 80 percent of Latinos.

Of course it includes peanut butter, which could kill those with peanut allergies. And what if you don't want to eat any of this crap, and just want to be able to buy food?

SNAP is a simple program that supports local businesses and more than pays for itself. Any SNAP money immediately goes to local grocery stores, putting the local economy to work exactly as intended.

The proposed replacement is complicated, expensive, and simply won't work in practice, and will replace a good thing with a terrible thing.

Anyone who thinks that poor people are bad with money or choose to be poor knows absolutely nothing about being poor, beyond hateful stereotypes.

I have never known a rich person that knew the value of a dollar, nor a poor person who didn't understand how to make the most of every cent. It doesn't help escape the situation, and eventually some people just give up.

Poverty is designed to be inescapable. Originally it was Jim Crow stuff designed to keep non-white races out of the larger capitalist world, but after the 60s it morphed into a larger war on the poor, cutting all the social services that had made 50s-70s suburbia possible, with the basic idea that if non-white races and women wanted equal treatment it would be bad treatment across the board, and that it would become as hard as possible for a poor person to gain any access to wealth.

Getting a job interview is a privilege check in a thousand different ways that check how well you're doing already. If you don't fit the exact mold they're looking for, forget it. It's designed to be easy for whatever the sort of person is that they want, and impossible for anyone else. Some people don't fit the mold anywhere. (There's a reason why the life expectancy for a trans woman of color is 35.)

Things literally become more expensive when you're poor. You can't get credit, can't get a loan, have to pay late fees and crazy interest that's designed to be inescapable and punitive.

Renting a room in an apartment is a privilege check, typically requiring such things as $1500 (rent and an equal deposit), three months of pay stubs from a steady non-creative job which are 3x or 4x rent, good credit without student loan debt and $40 to run the "application fee" and credit check, etc.

John Daniel Ehrlichman (March 20, 1925 – February 14, 1999) was counsel and Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs under President Richard Nixon. He was a key figure in events leading to the Watergate first break-in and the ensuing Watergate scandal, for which he was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury and served a year and a half in prison.

Quote, 1994:
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."
