Somehow the "Calvert Work In Progress," aka "Ruining The Thief," continues to surprise and contain useful footage.

SmartyMax pointed out during the Livestream that King Nod's dream about the One Eyes (blood and swords against black) appears in the Calvert WIP without the black grease lines which indicate a dissolve. I was able to paint out these distracting lines and the result is a real surprise after years of being used to a compromised version of the scene. It's nice when people chime in during a Livestream and remind me of obscure, useful footage - as when I was similarly restoring a bit of the pencil test of Tack in his cell creating the cat's cradle of YumYum, and also painting out dissolve lines. I believe it was CMK who reminded me this was on Simon Maddocks' reels ....

I've been picking away at the edit this week, doing bits of work on it. Oliver sent me splice frames for Yum Yum saying "One Eye?" so that shot is done now .... dirt removed and all. I really have to do a lot of editing now ...

Chris Fern chimes in - literally - with a midi transcription of the basic tune of the Love Theme.

[Although that third-to-last note really has got to go ...]

Hi.

I am a fan of The Thief and the Cobbler and I admire your work on the Recobbled Cut.

And I know that you have many sources to make this restoration so I would ask you to lend me one of your sources.

What I mean is that it is possible to have the French-language version?

Because I am French and I have heard that there is a French audio track on the Miramax/Weinstein DVD, because it is also marketed in Quebec. And I can't find it without buying the DVD.

If you could put a link to a torrent or even to another link from a file hosting service, it would be cool. No matter if this version is butchered.

Hi TriTails.

The (pan & scan) Miramax DVD does contain a French dubbed audio track. The Japanese DVD has a Japanese track, and there's a Spanish version on Youtube.

The Miramax cut, sometimes referred to by its theatrical title "Arabian Knight," is so different from the intended version, especially in terms of audio and speaking characters, that I usually don't deal with restoring it.

I will upload the French audio and you can play it along with the film. I believe the Japanese widescreen DVD is torrented at The Pirate Bay (and is also on Youtube).

Thank you very much, it always good to know something.

But I never thought the french voice of :zigzag: Zigzag will be like that. It doesn't sound like Vincent Price. By the way, the voice actor isn't credited.

And the songs are even more wicker in french.

But anyway, this is a good way to introduce this movie to the french audience, as well this version and a French-subtitled version of the Recobbled Cut. By the way, I already made a presentation on the movie and I intend to present to my high school class.

Livestream tomorrow. I'll probably be doing serious work on a few HD shots that require special compositing together with SD sources (including stabilization and warping). Maybe I'll finally do audio and HD editing as well, so I can release some new videos ...
