About Social Media and Going Viral

You have to speak to people in their own language, and make them feel that to an extent they're creating something too. It's not just a one-way street. They should be contributing too, or feel like they are, without needing to put any real effort into it, beyond the level of basic Facebook-style interaction.

Andrew Hussie was a master of this early on. Still is, to an extent.

You have to create content that people will talk about and have a personal stake in. Content that tells a story. Makes people feel intelligent, or nostalgic. That makes people laugh. That makes them feel smarter and better-informed for sharing it with people, or that they're doing some good for the world by sharing it. By seeking to do good in the world first, selflessly, you drive other people to share that interest.
