"Keiji Inafune's looking to make a Megaman style game without Capcom's nonsense. Back Mighty No. 9, for great justice!"

(Rock and Roll have become Beck and Call. And nearly the entire staff are Mega Man veterans. Yes, this is Mega Man ....)

It's amazing that things have gotten so bad with Capcom that this is happening.

It's like if Brian Wilson or Al Jardine or David Marks went off and started their own band called "The Beach Pals" or something, and Murry Wilson or Mike Love tried to stop them and .... wait, that happened constantly. Ok.

So Shantae. Original, for Game Boy Color. It's gorgeous for an 8-bit Game Boy Color game, full of great, complex animations and "splash" sprites. The character is as sexy as you can get on the GBC (more so than in the DSi sequel).

Pretty straightforward/standard platformer, although with a large world, a sense of humor and some unusual touches here and there.

Her hairwhip attack bugs me. It's a bit sluggish, and, well, it's a hair whip attack. I found it a bit difficult to fight the bad guys and would need more practice on that. There is enough strategy that I quickly wound up consulting a walkthrough, which is surprising again for an 8-bit game (though typical for this casual gamer).

Yeah, it's ok.

Not sure where I can get the DSi sequel.

Sequels for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS (originally) were cancelled.

Oh dang if they are making a sequel it'll be nice to see how they've changed it after all these years. I still need to play the DSi game so I'll probably grab that some time soon.

Here's a Kickstarter for a new Shantae game.

Spider-man becomes a skeleton gradually. WTF?

Also, R2D2 is involved.

Admittedly much better than the Spider-Man adventure game for Apple IIe which i had, and was always baffled by.

Here's the Atari version of that.

How do I shot web? Spider-man, I want you to turn off dark

I have fond memories of Thexder, which my friend Mike had on his Tandy computer. The year was 1987 (85 in Japan), and you were a robot who transformed into a jet plane and shot a laser which you had no directional control over.

... and there was a PSP Thexder remake recently:

With both Thexder and Questprobe, the original PC versions aren't nearly as good.

NES Thexder is very primitive by comparison.

Thexder 2 came out in 1989.

The original game was remade as Thexder 95 in 1995 ... what an ugly game!

Alright, I feel like talking about Space Funeral, so here I am, talking about Space Funeral.

Space Funeral is an RPGMaker game in which you play as Phillip, who is sad. He's been kicked out of his house, and now he's going on some sort of journey to figure out why the world is so weird.
The combat isn't super special, the enemies are really just there to be there. The real meat of the game is the bizarre atmosphere.

There's also some fan sequels, most notably The Legend of Earth Birth.

Update came in a couple days ago on the Shantae kickstarter, but Inti Creates, the same studio that's working on Mighty No. 9, is now working with WayForward to make Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero!

Read it here as well as seen concept pieces of the Shantae cast by Inti Creates: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/123 ... f=activity
