Mario character guide.

Nice to see every early enemy character drawn in standard SMB style.

This is the only time I've seen the "Olive Oyl" Pauline (from Donkey Kong) drawn in Super Mario Bros style (Yoichi Kotabe style). They tone down her Olive Oylness. She resembles Princess Peach. (The American art by Zavier Leslie Cabarga drew her to resemble Fay Wray.) She's credited as "Lady," separately from the later dark-haired Pauline seen in the Game Boy game, Mario vs DK and SM Odyssey. Dark-haired Pauline was inspired by the Fay Wray Pauline, but made to look more dissimilar to Peach.

Notes on ROM-dumping an old LCD video game (like the handheld Tiger ones).

Search for "Sonic the Hedgehog" on Google and he shows up. Then click on him 25 times.

Sonic 3D Blast (1996) for Sega Genesis now gets a Director's Cut patch (from the original developer) which improves the controls, fixes the camera, adds Super Sonic, adds cut enemies and a time attack and other tweaks. The game is often overlooked due to its controls.

Also: SONIC 3D Blast has a full motion video intro sequence, which should have been impossible to fit on a Sega cartridge, even a big 4MB one like 3D Blast. Here's how they did it:

"Jackie Chan should be in Smash Bros" sounds like a silly nonsense idea, but there's an argument there. And this is ignoring the NES title "Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu." He focuses on "Kung Fu," the popular early-NES black box title which was a port of "Spartan-X," a Jackie Chan arcade game. Amusingly, Jackie Chan has as much right to be there as Duck Hunt, The Ice Climbers, etc.

"Spartan-X/Kung Fu/Kung Fu Master" honestly bears a closer resemblance to Bruce Lee's "Game of Death" than the Jackie Chan film, but in both arcades and on the Famicom it was promoted with Jackie's face:

Also, did you know there was a Japan-only sequel for the NES, "Spartan-X 2?" Although they seem to avoid making the character resemble Jackie Chan, or tying it to the film "Spartan-X," AKA "Wheels On Meals".

Jackie Chan had a Mortal Kombat-inspired arcade game at one point, which was extremely rare and unknown to the internet until about 2008. Fights with Jackie are clean, while with other players there's blood and fatalities. Sadly overlooked, it was (barely) released as The Kung Fu Master, then as the remixed Fists of Fire (with oddly recolored characters). It was shot on the set of Thunderbolt.

"A Jackie Chan type character" is also fairly standard in fighting game franchises, along with "A Bruce Lee type character."
