I've received mario maker in the mail yesterday and can safely say there is nothing to worry about when it comes to lazy level design. Any boring "run right to win" or "don't move at all to win" courses are usually forgotten while stages with at least some effort put into it are shown first in the online list.

One of the main purposes of the game is to train aspiring video game designers anyway, so it is good that even mediocre design is favored over outright uncreativity.
