You don't get to decide what is and isn't art. You do get to decide what you do and don't like. There's a difference.

It's not untrue that people r dum lol. But any desire to always feel superior to the population at large becomes toxic quickly.

If you hate what music is these days, blame the industry, not the artists. It's disappointing what sort of music is in vogue. Not all of it is bad, mind.

But it is art. All of it. Most creative pursuits require art of some kind. Art with skill and quality is another matter. But all art is different things to different people. Something you don't like is not necessarily intended for you. Having "discerning taste" too often devolves into attacking work aimed at minorities, women, the young. I'm not about that.

If we want our choices in what we think is "good art" to define us as people, we may elevate obscurities just to be "unique." This is unnecessarily contrarian. It does take skill to appeal to a mass audience. And those who succeed have been through some shit.

Yes, Fame and success can be manufactured with enough money. And it's good for a viewer to have a discerning eye. But that doesn't mean that something isn't art just because you don't like it.

The "modern" fine art world, though, can fuck off generally.

I want you to look at your latest piece of art. okay? got it up?

Now think back a few years. If you were to see that piece of art back then how would you have reacted?

Now think back many years, as many as you want. How would you have reacted then?

you are the artist you wanted to be, right now.

Stop hating on yourself, and have fun.

Since when are the sides of buildings just ad space anyway? That's not a common enough phenomenon to where you could say the mural had it coming.
