I'm not sure I've ever encountered a worse popular singer than Sam Smith. He has no rhythm. It's like reading a novel written by someone who can't read. It hurts my mind to listen to his off-beat, definitively uncool moanings.

I blame this sort of American Idol culture, which managed to undo any sense of cool and danger that popular music has ever had, all the way back before the days of Elvis and Buddy Holly. We're basically back to the days of Lawrence Welk playing polka.

Apart from being a swipe of a much better Tom Petty song, I've simply never heard a song that was as off-rhythm as this - it makes me physically ill:

Sam Smith said he wrote his Bond theme in just twenty minutes. Take longer.

Imelda Staunton's "Rose's Turn" from the recent West End production of Gypsy is everything I hoped it would be and more. https://youtu.be/z4cCAx-kTjc?t=1m1s

Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's unforgettable musical Hamilton is currently the hottest ticket on Broadway. It uses a non-white cast to tell the story of America then, in a way that looks and sounds like America now. It brings the early days of the Union to irreverent and vivid life, detailing the excitement and eventual tragedy of Hamilton's life, love and ambitions.
