Keeping The Summer Alive isn't really all that bad. Bland in a lot of places, but nothing on it is really all that offensive. Endless Harmony (minus the stupid God Bless America tag), Goin' On, and the title track are all good stuff. So it's not really a good album by any stretch, but it's certainly not Summer In Paradise level of bad.

Also Kokomo was on Still Cruisin', not SIP.

The many appearances that Mike Love and company made on Full House really show why the Beach Boys were considered so uncool in their "America's Band" era. They perform simple songs like "Barbara Ann" and generally behave in a cheesy, embarrassing way, matching the tone of the worst and most inexplicably popular family sitcom of that decade. It's not far off from the tone of their appearances in various films and TV shows back in the 1960s, but doesn't look good on the older, out-of-style beach men ...

It's very nostalgic seeing Carl perform at least, and seeing Brian there in the first appearance. "Surfin' USA" and "Be True To Your School" are trotted out. The simpler surfin' and cars stuff got a lot more play in this era than any nostalgia for Pet Sounds, Sunflower, Wild Honey, and so on ....

Endless Summer was what truly killed The Beach Boys' creative streak.

Album went #1 and the band realized that they could become a nostalgia county fair act and have a meal ticket for life. Brian was pretty much shut out of any real creative role after the Adult/Child fiasco and the band never recovered. Perhaps if Dennis hadn't drowned things would've been different.....

I know that, I just view SIP as a grim sort-of-continuation of Kokomo.

Surfin' Safari somehow went out of copyright recently, which is why there are so many of these cheap releases (many of which just have the tracklist shuffled and claim it's a compilation). Still, some of them aren't all THAT bad...
