Well, it's been an interesting series. With the rule against returning monsters, it took until the New Year's special Resolution for this show to deliver what people expect from Doctor Who. A very traditional adventure with The Doctor and a Dalek, almost structured as a gift to us for the end of the series. Much like RTD's "Dalek" the episode actually does something new with The Doctor's oldest enemy, and it's a real crowd pleaser. Inbetween we get some dull drama involving Ryan's dad. This has been the weakest story point in the series, and it plays into racial stereotypes to set up an absent father, and for The Doctor to pretty much set him up to die at the end of this episode. But oh well. The Chibnall incarnation of the show has subtlety to it and is better at Serious Adult Drama than the show has usually been, so I can't fault them too much. And The Doctor gets one of those confident "The Earth is protected" moments, so familiar from the more outwardly confident Tennant and Smith incarnations. Nitpick: Whoever approved someone actually drawing a Dalek in that history book should get a talking-to. That breaks the episode's entire premise.

Oh no. This one hurts. We'll miss you, Uncle Terry.

RIP Terrance Dicks. For many, he was the voice of Doctor Who. Dicks served as script editor through the Jon Pertwee era, covering over 150 episodes over five years.

He wrote The War Games (with Malcolm Hulke), Robot, The Brain of Morbius (re-written by Robert Holmes), Horror of Fang Rock, State of Decay, and The Five Doctors - a resume of classics more bulletproof than a Dalek.

Lot of people are saying he taught them how to read.

He wrote more than eighty Doctor Who books. I counted 89, though that includes stuff that doesn't count as full books.

One episode of Doctor Who from 2014 was rumored to be titled "Robots of Sherwood" and was released as "Robot of Sherwood." A black and white rough cut had leaked with onscreen text. A scene revealing that the bad guy isn't who he seems to be was cut entirely, as it was considered too gruesome.

This was not included on the DVD either. Without it the story of the episode is entirely different.

It would be possible to colorize it. Unfortunately it's unlikely that EBSynth would cope all that well with the onscreen text.

Pinball, 1992.

Pinball remake, recently!

The 1992 game fills the playfield with supporting characters. I think the remake only has River Song.

There's Leela, Jamie, Zoe, Susan, Peri, Ace, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Bessie with Pertwee companions (Probably Jo with Benton and the Brig but could be Sarah Jane with Yates or even Liz Shaw), the Whomobile, Delgado Master (twice), the Tardis and many a Dalek.

Oh hey, the prototype playfield had the Ainley Master.

Wonder why they dropped the Ainley Master. This game is kind of out of character for Delgado.

Christopher Eccleston's first fan convention appearance in the US at Rose City Comic Con. In a Q&A session, Eccleston addresses his time on Doctor Who. He has not spoken much about the show over the years. He says that when he left the role after one series, the BBC smeared him in the press in an attempt to save the show by distancing it from him. He was blacklisted and did not work in UK television for four years. He was interested in working with Steven Moffat but did not reprise his role for the 50th Anniversary because the BBC still hadn't apologized. He did feel they replaced him with a better actor, John Hurt.
