Yes, I must agree, this is really exciting news. And while we're speaking of Sherlock Holmes, I really hope they someday find the missing footage from Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.

Psychology Today: Internet Trolls Are Narcissists, Psychopaths, and Sadists

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/you ... nd-sadists

I'm not saying I'm a saint or anything, but the idea of getting pleasure from making strangers suffer, with no other motive, is utterly alien to me.

For more cheerful reading, LA Times: In battle against rude people, kindness is a powerful weapon

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la ... story.html

They specifically mention how an act of kindness to a stranger is particularly powerful. I'm not always sure how to actually go about doing that. I guess the best I've done recently would be sending thoughtful messages to strangers on-line who seem to be having a rough time. And indeed, people often react with grateful surprise. Think of it as anti-trolling, I guess. :)

Washington Post: Why a leading professor of new media just banned technology use in class

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ans ... -in-class/

Really, I could quote pretty much this entire article with various points about technology, multi-tasking, and attention, but here's a good sample.

"I’ve stopped thinking of students as people who simply make choices about whether to pay attention, and started thinking of them as people trying to pay attention but having to compete with various influences, the largest of which is their own propensity towards involuntary and emotional reaction."

Any chance anyone here will be attending NYCC this week? Wouldn't mind meeting up with a few people from here.

South Park is about to make fun of trans people ... with their usual sledgehammer subtlety, I'm sure ...

I should have been wondering why Tumblr was so pissed off at South Park all of the sudden.
