Re: The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut Mark 4

I have no current plans to use that material; it's a contrasty transfer and there seems to be some detail lost in the brighter parts of the image, especially in certain shots. (I would also have to remove splices and dirt again, stabilize, etc.) If this was my only source for this material I could r...

Re: The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut Mark 4

I don't know. (I'm going to delete some further comments here because it adds nothing to this discussion. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, your comments are very repetitive and I would ask that you post less.) Did we ever cover this? At 21 minutes 45 seconds, this is a very early version of The T...

Re: Animation Thread

I cannot in good conscience recommend Adobe Podcast enhancement, which is more or less hallucinating its own version of what was said rather than working with the real audio. It's really not accurate, or compatible with the original recording. I do recommend Izotope RX8 spectral noise reduction, and...

Re: The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut Mark 4

I have released the reel of "new" restored scenes privately to some of the team, and am working on new animation myself. I have inked 44 pages of material so far for some new animated scenes. There's still some minor effects stuff not present in that reel, but otherwise ... Hmmm... what's ...

Re: Orangecow.org in the News

I'm quoted briefly in this New York Magazine / Vulture article about how the Academy Awards don't give much respect to animation.

https://twitter.com/TygerbugGarrett/status/1633704963779231750 With all the difficulties you have discussed, are you entirely convinced that you will be able to release it on the anniversary of mark 4? Completely understandable if not, this does seem like a hard project. It is likely that we will ke...

Re: The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut Mark 4

This has been fixed / will be fixed in the new version. Some of the wide shots were (apparently) refilmed after what appears in the KA reels. The pole is more visible in Arabian Knight / Princess and the Cobbler / etc. The KA reels are 35mm HD, but also reflect an earlier version of the film. The id...

Re: The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut Mark 4

I haven't decided yet. I'm not currently sure if it's technically possible to rebuild the old audio edit as it was. There are a lot of roadblocks in the way ten years later. It does sound like a good idea to deal with the sound somewhat, but it's easier not to think about it right now. The new edit ...
